It wasn't often that Cordelia got to spend an entire day with her girls. Normally she got up before they did, got breakfast ready and then dropped them off at their day care or the preschool in Freya's case and then went off to work. But, there was one day a month that she got to do whatever she wanted and it usually involved the park or the beach if it was nice enough. Sure there were times that she had to do the chores too, mend the clothes, do the shopping, and cleaning. But, thankfully today she could slip by with not doing any of that. They made it to the park, the three dogs in tow as well as a picnic basket of snacks and water. She had the three dogs on the leashes, of course that was the law, even if she thought it was stupid.
They made it to the nice shady spot where she could lay out the blanket and then they could play. She sat all of the things down before walking over to the play set with her daughters. Of course Athena wanted to swing and she wanted Cory to go on it with her. They swung for about five minutes before Athena wanted to go slide. The three played for a while, happily sliding, and running around like crazy people, the three dogs joining in, Cory had even convinced the three dogs to somehow go down the slides. It wasn't until they were hungry that they walked over to the basket with the dogs. they set out the snacks and Cory made sure they had plenty of liquids.
Freya looked at her mom rather seriously, Cory knew what she was going to say when she saw what caught her eye. It was a dad, who was walking past with a toddler in his arms and of course a pretty blonde on his arm, she was pushing a stroller, that had a sleeping infant. Cory gave her oldest daughter a smile, hoping she wouldn't ask, but she did. "Mommy.. why doesn't daddy come around? He doesn't love us like daddies are supposed to does he?" She questioned, her dark brown eyes looking at her. Cory gave her a sad smile and kissed the top of her head. She blamed herself of course, maybe it she would have just tried harder he would have stayed. She almost hated how smart her oldest was, that's what she got for actually wanting her to be smart, for reading to her when she could, working with her on everything. "Sweetheart, your daddy loves you. There isn't a possibly reason for him not to." She said quietly. She smoothed her bright red hair softly. "You are perfect, both of you are. I think daddy was just.. confused.. It wasn't anything you did though... I promise. I was all mommy.. Daddy wasn't happy with me, but he absolutely loves you.." She added quietly, kissing to top of her head again. She pulled the locket from her dress and opened it. "See these pictures. These are right after you were born.. that one, that's you and me, I was so happy.." She said softly, pointing to the picture of her and a crying newborn who had red hair sticking everywhere. "Then there is this one.. with you and me.. and Athena after she was born.. and I knew that my life was perfect because I had the two best girls in the world." She added with a smile. Athena crawling to look at the picture.
The four year old seemed content with the answer for now. Cory picked up, as the girls went to play again. Since they were alone, and she knew the dogs would protect them. Sometimes they even gave her looks if she did something or the girls cried when she was around. Especially Gypsy, the golden retriever. She had gotten her as a puppy but the second she brought Freya home, from the hospital the then two year old lost the puppy out of her and became protective and very gentle. The same thing happen again when she brought Athena home, the other two dogs were quite protective of both of them. She watched as they followed the girls, they would turn concerned if one of them tripped and even got up on the play set with them. It might not have been perfect all the time, but she really did live a charmed life.
