class had already begun for the semester, but that didn't mean that beach time wasn't a necessity. it was. peyton needed her daily dose of vitamin d straight from the suns rays and as she sat in her beach recliner, she conveniently forgot all about the shit load of 'homework' she had to do before going to the bar tonight. she loved being a bartender. it gave her a chance to meet so many new people, but gave her the opportunity to socialize with her friends on a regular basis when maybe she wouldn't have been able to otherwise. then of course there were her regulars that came in just to see her, drink a few beer, shoot the shit and move on to whatever it was they were going. it was hard to believe that barely more than a decade ago she was a timid girl, trying to relearn or actually learn how to socialize with people. peyton sometimes forgot that she had gone through horrific things in her life because once she had been removed from her parents custody, everything in her life changed. for the better. she owed everything she had and had become to her grandparents and to todd. their unconditional love and understanding, even todd's at ten years old, meant more to her than they could ever imagine. peyton had known a long time ago that her first published novel would be dedicated to them.
the sound of some of the beach goers caught her attention, allowing her own thoughts to drift right off into the sea. peyton opened her eyes and from behind her dark sunglasses she watched as the couple argued over what seemed to be her checking out some guy down the way. peyton had to chuckle at that. she wasn't quite sure who was more ridiculous, him for being so insecure over it or her for actually entertaining the idea that this was an issue. this was a beach. people were scantily dressed, half naked and even some topless. it was human nature to look at someone who was attractive and if that guy was that insecure then he had bigger problems than his girlfriend looking at some other guy that he needed to work on. or maybe it was her who had things to work on by putting up with it. regardless of it all, it wasn't her business and although it was entertaining for a few moments she was now bored with it.
bored enough to lean down and pick up her advanced internet journalism textbook. she had an assignment that required her to write an extensive blog about a current political topic. peyton let out a breath, her face wrinkling up at the thought. as much as she was a straight a student, as much as she loved writing, political correspondence wasn't her forte and she really loathed the idea of this assignment. so naturally she was going to put it off for as long as she could, not even having a topic ready to begin researching. she'd get it done though, she always did and this wouldn't be any different. peyton would just do it begrudgingly. placing her book back down on the blanket set up beside her, she picked up her cell, sliding her finger across the screen and typing in the security code to get her to the main screen. when she got there, she immediately hit her text icon and tapped on his name. miss me yet? come chill with me half naked on the sand and then on the surf. avoiding homework and you should do the same ♥. pressing send, peyton let out a small chuckle before placing her phone on the armrest of her chair. if todd was out of class he'd get back to her. eventually. until then she closed her eyes and took off her sunglasses, leaning back in her chair to yet again soak up the warm rays of sunshine. this was heaven.
