If one more person made a comment about her shorts, she was going to go postal. "Oh my god, I didn't see you there!" or "Where's your ass?" were the few that she heard and she could kill them all already. The counselor of the school had just given them a tour, since her school in Texas had just gotten out for the summer, there was no point of her going back to school just for the few weeks. Just what she needed a summer, in a new place without knowing a single person. But, apparently it was just oh so important that they move back to her mother's home town. The really couldn't wait two more years? Seriously. She would be a Junior in the fall, she had friends back in Texas. Not many, but at least they knew her, they didn't tease her about her camouflaged shorts. They had gotten her set up for the next year, classes and a locker; her mother insisted that they needed to know what classes she would need or what she needed to prepare for. The counselor was concerned, a young impressionable girl in a new place without a father figure anymore, he thought that was his concern so he and her mother were talking about it in his office. She didn't think it was any of his business. Yeah, she knew her father was dead. She missed him, but he died fighting for something he believed in, he died fighting her her mom, her siblings, herself, and millions of people he didn't know. He died a hero and the dog tags she wore around her neck and the flag and metals they were given at the funeral proved it. Did she think it was a fair trade? No. She would have rather had her father alive and well, back in Texas. But, she didn't have a fair godmother to make these wishes come true. That was almost a year ago that they had been given the news, she was allowed the grieving period right?
She was shooed away and was told to wait with her brother and sister. So it began. She loved her baby brother and sister, but really, she didn't need to be waiting around for her mother in a strange school where she was bound to have strange people walking up and commenting on her shorts or if they were brave enough asking if they were her's. It wouldn't be the first time. She found the courtyard, she led her brother to the fountain and they sat there. She handed him her phone. "Will, you can play with my phone.. She told him, knowing that she had a race car game on there that the five year old absolutely loved to play. He grinned happily as he sat next to her, becoming instantly pulled into the game. She held her little sister, Melanie, who was two on her lap. She didn't want her falling in the fountain or running away from her. That the last thing she needed, losing her baby sister in her soon to be new school. The two year old was reaching towards the water and Parker smirked softly at her. "Mel. Don't do that, you'll fall in and be all wet." She said softly to the little girl, who reached one last time, so Parker dipped her slightly so her fingers grazed the water. She was happy with that and let out a happy giggle before laying up again her, her dark brown eyes just staring at the water. They sat there, waiting for their mother to show her lovely face so they could go home and she could forget about having to come back to this place until the fall.
