Peyton is a social butterfly, though it isn’t something that has always come naturally. Severely abused and neglected, she didn’t learn proper socialization until she was about eight years old when she was removed from her parents custody. Some might say she had reactive attachment disorder, but she had a bond with her brother that was strong and the moment she was placed in her grandparents custody she began to thrive. Even then it took her years to understand the rules of it all. She was shy, timid and downright afraid to develop bonds with anyone outside of her brother and grandparents. But, at ten she met a boy who changed her life forever, her best friend Todd. Peyton started coming out of her shell and once she did there was no turning back, the girl that had once been was no longer and she went from a caterpillar to a butterfly. Peyton developed her proverbial wings, fluttering around and developing friendships left and right. She loved being around people. Now, she is a confident, independent woman. Peyton is loyal, courageous and very driven to achieve her goals. She is loving, caring and wants nothing more than the best for those she loves, especially her family and her best friend. Though she does keep her past a secret from most people, she tries not to give out false pretenses or lie. Peyton simply isn’t looking for anyone to throw her a pity party and she’s found in the past that has been the case. She wants to be viewed for the girl she is today, strong and fierce because she refuses to allow her past to control her or hold her back. Mother: Marcie Jolene Halveston - whereabouts unkown Father: Jacob Vincent Turner - deceased Siblings: Jared Turner, 18 Other: Caroline and Tyler Halveston - Maternal Grandparents/Guardians, Todd Reese – best friend Pets: German Shepherd, Lola. Orange Tabby, Knightly Overall History: Born to Marcie Halveston (19) and Jacob Turner (21), Peyton was doomed from the start, or so it seemed. She was unwanted and unloved, her mother not quite caring if she lived or died. If anyone actually cared, it would have been her father, but he had been too far gone, strung out on drugs most of the time to even realize that his girlfriend was neglecting their daughter. As time went on, the infant grew into a toddler and when Peyton was three, her brother Jared was born. Yet another accident. The two children were unkept, treated by their mother as nothing more than disposable trash, leaving Peyton to fend for herself as her infant brother was barely taken care of. Having to endure both physical and emotional abuse, Peyton started to distance herself more and more from the world, shying away from everyone and everything except her brother. He was the only thing that gave her joy or made her smile. Years went on and at five years old, Peyton was enrolled in school, not because it was the right thing to do, but because Marcie couldn’t be bothered with her anymore. So, while she was at school she would dream of one day getting away from all of this. She had wanted to confide in her teacher, but she knew that if she tried the beating she would receive at home would be far worse and it frightened her that her mother would do something to harm her brother. So, Peyton kept her mouth shut and continued to live her life the way that it was dealt to her. She had no friends, no real idea how to even develop a friendship, so she played alone and was quickly deemed ‘the weird kid’. That lead to her going home and crying when no one was looking, not that anyone ever really paid much attention to her at home anyway. Still, the years passed and she sort of slipped through the cracks of life, never really making waves or enough noise to be noticed. At seven, the abuse had escalated and the physical abuse started outweighing the verbal. On the eve of her eighth birthday, her father had come home to find his almost eight year old daughter curled up in a ball in the corner of her room, her face covered in blood and swollen. He was enraged and without thinking, the he found his girlfriend and did to her what she had done to their daughter. A neighbor heard the commotion and immediately called the police, taking both Marcie and Jacob to jail for domestic abuse. Child Protective Services was also called and met Peyton and Jared at the hospital. They were immediately removed from the home and placed with their maternal grandparents. Within days, the judge had granted them guardianship over the two young children. Once released from prison, Jacob had tried to sober up for the sake of his children, however after his third attempt in rehab he overdosed and died when Peyton was nine. Living with her grandparent in Newport Beach had been the best thing that had ever happened to Peyton. She began to flourish and started developing small little friendships here and there, but it was at ten years old that everything in her life changed. Peyton met a boy, Todd Reese and immediately she was drawn to him. Like a moth to a flame, perhaps. The two were almost inseparable and it was the friendship that she developed with him that had allowed her to turn into a proverbial butterfly. Todd taught her what it was like to have true friendship, to be able to give and take equally and that friendship can be unconditional. From then on, she had learned exactly who she was and who she wanted to be and with each passing year, Peyton discovered her inner beauty as well as outer. She went from a shy, timid, abused girl to a social, independent, driven young woman who was going to make something out of her life. Between her grandparents love, her bond with her brother and her friendship with Todd, Peyton rose up from the ashes, graduating at the top of their high school class and has, for the last three years, been pursing her degree in Journalism. She has every intention of writing a novel, fiction of course, though based on her life growing up. |
